St. Elizabeth’s Hospital and Southern Illinois Home Care and Hospice have received support already during this COVID-19 health crisis, but some in this community of 28,000 in Southern Illinois are asking what they can do to further offer support.

Hospital staffers suggested making cut-out hearts and posting them on doorways so hospital workers could see them on their way into work in the morning, expressing love for the workers' efforts to treat the sick during the coronavirus pandemic.

“If residents could consider printing out a heart from the hospital website and placing it on their front doors or in their front windows as our health care workers drive into work each morning or evening, they would see these hearts on their way in to work at our hospital and clinics,” Hospital Chief Nursing Officer Regina Peterson told Riverbender.com. "It would really give our colleagues a boost to see how everyone is pulling for them.”

Residents can also help with other forms of support.

St. Elizabeth’s set up a donation form on its “How to Help” page under “Donating items and services.” The form enables the collection of personal protective equipment (PPE), food donations for staff, and other forms of assistance.

Cloth masks will be accepted on Tuesdays at the Scott Credit Union's Belleville East branch between 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., and Wednesdays at the Scott Credit Union's O’Fallon branch between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m.

Anyone interested in making masks with either elastic or cotton straps can click here to view the criteria for donating them, the Riverbender.com report stated.
