State Rep. C.D. Davidsmeyer (R-Jacksonville) opposes Illinois lawmakers voting remotely.
State Rep. C.D. Davidsmeyer (R-Jacksonville) wants the Illinois General Assembly to have input on the current COVID-19 decision-making that is currently being done by Gov. J.B. Pritzker.
Davidsmeyer said Pritzker's authority should not go past the initial 30 days of emergency power.
"Whether you agree or disagree, a separate and equal branch of government should have input on the state of Illinois," Davidsmeyer said. "We are the ones who are the boots on the ground."
Davidsmeyer said he talks to constituents on a daily basis, adding, "As a state, we have to make decisions."
Davidsmeyer said he also does not believe members of the General Assembly should be allowed to vote remotely.
"There needs to be a check in place to make sure the person who is voting is the person that was elected to do so," Davidsmeyer said. "We've been entrusted with the importance of that authority and that power. That was what was given to us from the constituents."
