St. Clair County was one of the two counties chosen to be part of a pilot initiative of Illinois Contact Tracing Collaborative.
St. Clair and Lake counties were chosen for specific reasons, including having a certain amount of vulnerable populations and plenty of public health, medical students and volunteers ready, according to KMOV4.
“With Illinois’ daily availability of testing among the best in the nation, we want to grow our voluntary contact tracing so we can further control and reduce the rate of spread of COVID-19 and stop outbreaks in their tracks,” Gov. J.B. Pritzker said. “Knowing if you’ve been exposed to someone with COVID-19 gives everyday Illinoisans the ability to keep their families and co-workers and friends safe by helping them seek testing or self-isolate, and it helps us build a public health system that truly supports them if their exposure leads to actual infection.”
As of June 27, Illinois reported 141,077 confirmed cases of the coronavirus, including 6,873 deaths. St. Clair County has had 1,759 confirmed cases of COVID-19.
Lake County, with 9,608 COVID-19 cases, was also selected to pilot the initiative.
