Country Financial has awarded the Alton Police Department a donation for its K-9 unit.

Company representative Jeff Lauritzen says the $2,500 donation is designed to offset Alton's budget cuts following the COVID-19 pandemic.

“With recent budget cuts and their inability to hold fundraisers for the program, the money will be extremely helpful,” Lauritzen told the Advantage website. “The funds will specifically help purchase needed equipment and additional training. The department even welcomed Officer John Hoefert, which now puts them at three K-9 officers.”

According to Lauritzen, Country Financial will donate over $3 million in 2020 to groups and programs that make the effort to assist first responders. Additionally, donations will go to help health care professionals, as well as active-duty service members. Country Financial's service statement is to “enrich lives in the communities we serve.”

Country Financial also founded the Operation Helping Heroes program, which was created in 2015. The program was founded to support nonprofit events and programs that serve active-duty service members, military veterans, and all their family members.
