Swansea VFD responds to 44 fires in 2018

Swansea Volunteer Fire Department responded to 139 calls in 2018 - 3 percent more than the previous year, according to data from the National Fire Incident Reporting System.

The calls in Swansea included 44 fires - 24 structure fires, two vehicle fires and 18 other fires.

In all, the department saw $493,840 in fire loss - or about $11,224 per fire.

The department also received 95 false calls.

The Swansea Firefighters Pension Fund, which has two active employees and retired or inactive employee, was $9,752 positive as of April 2017, according to the fund's mandated filings with the Illinois Department of Insurance. That amounts to $181 for every fire in 2017.
