Belleville FD responds to 167 fires in 2018

Belleville Fire District responded to 626 calls in 2018 - 2.8 percent less than the previous year, according to data from the National Fire Incident Reporting System.

The calls in Belleville included 167 fires - 91 structure fires, 29 vehicle fires and 47 other fires. The fire department also responded to 17 calls for ruptures, explosions or overheating.

In all, the department saw $1,046,622 in fire loss - or about $6,267 per fire.

The department also received 442 false calls, including nine malicious calls and 433 other false calls.

The calls resulted in one civilian fire-related injury and two civilian fire-related deaths. Additionally, one fire service member was injured in fire-related incidents.

The Belleville Firefighters Pension Fund, which has 63 active employees and 74 retired or inactive employees, was $1,378,429 in debt as of April 2017, according to the fund's mandated filings with the Illinois Department of Insurance. That amounts to $7,922 for every fire in 2017.
