Republican activist Mike Babcock would like to administer Gov. J.B. Pritzker a dose of what he sees as his own medicine.
“I think we need to threaten to shut down the governor’s chain of Hyatt hotels and he see how he feels about completely losing a source of his income,” Babcock told the Metro East Sun. “Let’s not allow anyone to do any business with the Hyatt in the same way he’s crippling all these small businesses across the state. Maybe then he’ll open his eyes and not be so quick to do what he’s doing to other people that are already fighting to survive.”
With the stakes being as high as they are, Babcock said he’s not surprised to see more people now taking a stand, among them McHenry County State’s attorney Patrick Kenneally, who has vowed not to enforce the ban on indoor dining the governor has now enacted across the region.
“Plain and simple, the governor is facing more resistance because people are literally struggling to survive,” Babcock added. “In times like these, you have to take a stand and it has to be a really strong one. They see what’s happening to many of the small businesses that have tried to do everything the governor has insisted they do. Any of those businesses are now shut down and probably won’t ever be reopening.”
Babcock said Pritzker now threatening to strip businesses that violate his order of state licenses is just more of the same flawed thinking and bullying.
“He’s ued to getting his way and this is the way he behaves when anyone ever puts up any resistance,” he said. “We’ve seen it all before with the governor and this probably want be the last time we see him throwing a tantrum when anyone challenges him.”
