The Illinois Opportunity Project has issued the following press release:
Sen. Chris Belt (Centreville) is accused once again of ignoring the concerns of local families in new reporting by the Belleville-News Democrat. This time regarding the energy bills that are being rammed through Springfield over the desires and best interests of members of the community.
“Sen. Belt continues to demonstrate how out of touch he is with the people in his district and that he has no interest in hearing what they have to say,” said Mark Cavers, President of the Illinois Opportunity Project.
Just last month, concerned community members called out Senator Belt and other politicians for their years’ long inaction addressing the town’s severe flooding problems that leave families living in unsanitary and inhumane living conditions.
While local families are suffering, the Belleville News-Democrat has reported that Sen. Belt has a paid position of $58,500 as the superintendent at the Commonfields of Cahokia Public Water and Sewage District while also making $69,000 as a state legislator. Belt has defended his position at the water and sewer district but refuses to explain what he does and is the only employee without a job description.
“Sen. Belt’s behavior and attitude towards those he is supposed to serve is typical of many out-of-touch politicians in Illinois. Families and voters deserve a seat at the table, instead, they are ignored by an unresponsive government,” said Mark Cavers. “Sen. Belt has shown they will always put special interests before people, especially when they are immune to the consequences of their bad policy decisions.”
