Republican state Sen. Darren Bailey (R-Xenia) spent part of his Memorial Day saluting soldiers “that gave it their all” and their families.
“It’s the last day of May, Memorial Day 2021,” Bailey said in a video posted to YouTube. “It’s the last day of session and we had an amazing ceremony this morning, listened to a Gold Star mother speak and she said something that I needed to hear. The reason men and women serve, sometimes fight and sometimes sacrifice at all, is not that we Americans can we do what we want but that we can do what is right. That is so profound on this day, the last day of session. Don’t forget the men and women that gave it all and their families.”
Bailey recently launched his 2022 campaign for governor against Gov. J.B. Pritzker with a vow to turn Illinois back into a state of the people.
“This was not something I wanted to do, but I feel the need to in order to restore integrity in state government,” Bailey told the SE Illinois News. “This is a direct response to all the people that have been reaching out to us for help from all over the state,” he said. “This is about turning Illinois around and finally getting us back on track.”
For that to happen, Bailey says voters have to stand up and show Pritzker the door.
“I think I’ve been the only one standing up against all the wrongs he’s perpetrated on Illinois over the last two years,” he said. “I chose to sue the governor and call him out on his abuse of executive orders in the way he’s handled the pandemic. I continue to stick out my neck when others chose to stick their heads in the sand. Illinois needs real leadership.”
