Three SIUE Golfers Honored by GCAA

27

Southern Illinois University Edwardsville issued the following announcement on Aug. 4

Three SIUE golfers have been honored by the Golf Coaches Association. Zak Butt (Summerville, South Carolina), Parker McEachern (Keller, Texas) and Anthony Ruthey (Port Byron, Illinois) each have earned recognition as Srixon/Cleveland Golf All-America Scholars.

"This is a great honor for Zak, Parker, and Anthony," SIUE Head Coach Derrick Brown said. "To be named an All-America Scholar you need to not only be successful on the golf course but great in the classroom. These three young men and their families should be very proud of this accomplishment."

McEachern earned the award last year with SIUE, while Butt earned recognition at Winthrop. This year's award is the first for Ruthey. SIUE has had 15 golfers recognized with the award in the last four seasons.

To be eligible for Srixon/Cleveland Golf All-America Scholar status an individual must be a sophomore, junior or senior both academically and athletically in NCAA  Division I, II, III, and NAIA, or receiving their Associate's Degree and in their last year of athletic eligibility in the NJCAA. In addition, they must participate in 40-percent of his team's competitive rounds, have a stroke-average under 76.0 in NCAA Division I, and maintain a minimum cumulative career grade-point average of 3.2. A recipient must also be of high moral character and be in good standing at his college or university.
