State Sen. Steve McClure (R-Springfield) has announced he’s running to represent the newly drawn 54th District in the 2022 election, but he hasn’t forgotten his current constituency in the 50th District. McClure announced he is opening a new district office in the Village of Chatham. Elected in November 2018, McClure has established offices in Springfield and Jacksonville. The Chatham office offers a more accessible location for residents in the southern part of the district.
“Chatham is one of the major population centers of the 50th District, so it’s important to make sure that people there can easily get to my office and receive assistance with any issues they have regarding state government,” McClure said in a newsletter issued from his office. “Whether you have a major problem with a state agency or you just want to stop in and say hello, our doors are open to you.”
The Chatham office, according to the newsletter, is open from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday, and is located at 20 Cottonwood Drive in Chatham. For more information call: 217-607-5015. The Jacksonville office is open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., and the Capitol office from 8:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday.
McClure announced in November he would seek re-election in the redrawn 54th District. The district he currently represents covers west-central Illinois from Sangamon County to the Mississippi River.
The new district stems from the legislative redistricting map proposed by Democratic lawmakers and signed into law. District 54 now covers primarily rural counties in Central Illinois. According to the Herald & Review, the district stretches from Petersburg in the northwest to Staunton in the southwest to Effingham in the southeast to Moultrie County in the northeast. That area includes much of southern Macon County, including Macon and Mount Zion. It also includes a small slice of southwest Decatur near the South Side Country Club.
