Stansbury Earns NCAA Division II National Statistical Championship

McKendree University junior softball rightfielder Olivia Stansbury (Lafayette, Ind./Purdue Fort Wayne) picked up another award for her record setting play during the 2022 season on Monday afternoon as she was named the 2022 NCAA Division II Softball Statistical Champion for slugging percentage.

 

During the 2022 season, Stansbury recorded a school record and NCAA Division II best slugging percentage of 1.052. Stansbury won the statistical honor by a big margin as the second place finisher in Division II slugging percentage – Anderson's Kayson Boatner, posted a slugging percentage of 1.006. In addition, she was third among all softball players at the NCAA level as the Division I winner Jocelyn Alo from Oklahoma was first among NCAA softball players with a 1.212 percentage, while the Division III winner, Middlebury's Noelle Ruschil was second with a 1.108 percentage.

 

Stansbury, who was a unanimous First-Team All-American, the D2CAA Midwest Region Player of the Year, the Great Lakes Valley Conference Player of the Year and a finalist for the Schutt Sports/NFCA National Player of the Year honor, also finished the year ranked in the Top 10 nationally in Division II in home runs (20), home runs per game (0.45), on-base percentage (.553), total bases (141) and OPS (1.605). Additionally, she led the GLVC in batting average (.470), was third in both hits (63) and RBI (51) and second in runs per game (0.98). Thirty-five of her 63 hits went for extra bases.

 

She also led the Bearcats in batting average (.470), runs scored (43), hits (63), doubles (12), triples (3), home runs (20), RBI (51), total bases (141), slugging percentage (1.052), on-base percentage (.553), multi-hit games (18) and multiple RBI games (15) and was second in walks with 23 and struck out just 18 times in 134 at-bats, which is an average of just 7.4 times per at bat. She set new McKendree single season school records for batting average, home runs and slugging percentage.

 

Stansbury and the McKendree softball team completed the 2022 season with a 20-24 overall record and finished tied for eighth in the GLVC standings with a 12-16 record in head coach Heather Tarter's first season. The Bearcats missed out on the eighth and final spot in the 2022 GLVC Tournament as they lost on a tiebreaker to Maryville.
