Glen Carbon Mayor Robert Marcus gave his first village report at the board's May 24 Village Board of Trustees meeting. The annual report includes updates on each of the departments in the village over the last 12 months.

“We’ve had changes associated with COVID, changes associated with personnel, a new website, growth in departments and growth in the village,” the mayor said. “I think these changes and growth have been positive, and I'm excited to share this update with you.”

The village expanded its village staff over the past year, with 11 new employees joining since July of 2021. They included two new police personnel and three in the finance departments, along with new employees in parks, zoning, dispatch, custodial, a new director of public works, and a new director of communications.

The village has also completely updated its website and made improvements and updates to its village logo. The website has been completely redone to be more current and user-friendly and includes artwork and photographs from a local artist.

In other village news, Riverbender reported Marcus collaborated with St. Mary’s Catholic School by giving one of its students the opportunity to be mayor for the day. St. Mary student Lucas Frohnert  won this experience at the 2022 St. Mary’s School PTC Auction.

More recently, Marcus commented on the death of  former mayor Ronald “Ronnie” Foster Sr., who died at 86 on Aug. 16.

“Foster’s ability to forecast the future needs of the village was outstanding," Marcus said to The Telegraph. “We will forever be indebted to his leadership ability. Not only did his insight influence many of our greenspace initiatives, it also set the economic policy of the village.”
