Kevin Schmidt, running as a Republican to represent the 114th House District, recently gave his endorsement to gubernatorial Sen. Darren Bailey (R-Louisville).

“When it comes to abortion, Illinois is one of the least restrictive states in the country and Governor J.B. Pritzker would like to keep it that way,” Schmidt said. “Bailey has conveyed that his focus will be on pro-life, promoting economic growth, keeping schools open, government transparency, and taxes.”

"Voters in the Metro East and throughout Illinois have a real choice in the direction of our state. Do we want the failed policies of status quo politicians like JB Pritzker and LaToya Greenwood, or do we want to root out the culture of corruption in Illinois and bring new jobs and opportunities to our state?" Schmidt recently posted on Facebook. "The status quo is bankrupting our state and leading to a mass exodus from the state. We can change this by changing our state’s leadership and that begins with defeating LaToya Greenwood and JB Pritzker in November."

Bailey and his running mate Stephanie Trussell came to Belleville last Monday while on their campaign tour. Bailey and Trussell also made stops in Quincy, Peoria, Rockford, Crystal Lake, Mundelein, Lisle, Homer Glen and McCook.

Belleville is in the Metro East area and borders House District 114. Schmidt is competing with incumbent Rep. LaToya Greenwood (D-East St. Louis) for the seat.

Schmidt grew up in Belleville and now serves the Freeburg and Millstadt communities as a chiropractor. He has been the owner and operator of Schmidt Chiropractic for 16 years. Schmidt's website states that he has “implemented a cost saving, fiscally conservative, streamlined, and consolidated business plan to allow him to offer the most affordable services he could.”
