Republican Jennifer Korte lost to incumbent Rep. Katie Stuart (D-Edwardsville) for the 112th House District seat in the Nov. 8 election.

“Although last night didn't go our way, I am thankful for everyone who helped my campaign and for the opportunity to meet thousands of wonderful people while knocking on doors and campaigning for the last year," Korte said on Facebook. "I have seen our neighbors' stress when they talk about our future as we deal with rising energy costs, expensive gas, rising grocery prices, and high property taxes. I congratulate Katie on her win, but our work does not stop tonight; we must continue to ensure a better, more accountable government that reflects the priorities of our district.”

Korte garnered 46% of the vote with 17,232 votes, to Stuart's 54% with 20,200 votes, according to The Telegraph.

"Jennifer will work to roll back Illinois’ recently passed extreme energy policies that drastically raise utility costs on families and seniors living on a fixed income," her campaign site said if Korte were to be elected. "It’s time to stabilize rising energy prices and help working families better afford to live and work in Illinois. Jennifer supports law enforcement and will fight for safer communities. She will be an accessible citizen-legislator who will listen to the citizens of the 112th district."

Korte’s website described her background as a native daughter of the Metro East area where she was born, raised, and educated at the university level. “Jennifer Korte is running for State Representative because it is time families in the 112th District have an advocate in Springfield who will put the needs of our district ahead of corrupt political insiders,” her website reads.

The 112th district includes parts of Madison and St. Clair counties and the communities of Edwardsville and Collinsville.
