City of Belleville Library Board met Sept. 8.

Here are the minutes provided by the board:

I. Call to order and safety instructions: Board President Mary Smith called the meeting to order at 6:30 p.m.

Also present: Leander Spearman, Library Director, Angela Riley, Library Administrative Assistant.

II. Public Comments:

III. Approval of Minutes: Rhonda Ross moved the motion to accept the minutes of the August 11, 2022, Board Meeting. Mary Karban seconded the motion. Minutes were approved.

IV. Personnel/Legal/Legislation: Leander Spearman reported that there will be an open position due to a full-time clerk submitting a resignation on September 6, 2022.

V. Policy:

VI. Property, Equipment, and Service: Leander Spearman reported on the partnership with a girl scouts Gold Award project.

Leander Spearman reported that the Scott AFB Library will visit and tour the Belleville Public Library on September 21, 2022, to gain information on the 1000 books program and the media lab.

Leander Spearman gave details on the upcoming annual sexual harassment training.

Leander Spearman reported on the two-factor authentication being implemented for all city computers. This process is needed to maintain the cyber security insurance coverage. The library is on a separate system from the city but is being strongly encouraged to implement this as well.

Leander Spearman reported on the online training opportunities in trip and fall hazards, office safety, Ergonomics, etc. being offered by the insurance company. Some of the training will be mandatory, and others will be optional.

Leander Spearman reported that the updated alarm system is up and running at both locations.

Leander Spearman reported that he has been in negotiations with Monica Butler of the Butler Group, a video production company, to partner with her organization in hopes to restart the Belleville Lives Project.

VII. Finance: Rhonda Ross moved the motion to approve the September claims to be paid and Carmen Duco seconded the motion. Roll Call Vote: 6 ayes. September Claims were approved.

VIII. Fundraising/Foundations/Promotion/Marketing: Leader Spearman reported that he will be attending the Illinois Library Association’s annual conference in Tinley Park October 17th – 21st.

XII. Adjourn: The Motion was made by Rhonda Ross and seconded by Mary Karban to adjourn. Motion carried. The September 2022 meeting adjourned at 6:56 p.m. The next meeting of the Library Board of Directors will be held Thursday, October 13, 2022, at 6:30 p.m., West Branch.
