Thatha Honored as OVC Player of the Week
SIUE women's basketball Ajulu Thatha (Indianapolis, Ind.) has been named the Ohio Valley Conference Player of the Week following a pair wins at Lindenwood and against Eastern Illinois
In Thursday's win at Lindenwood, Thatha set SIUE's single game rebounding record, hauling in 25. Kathy Going (1978-79) and Kim Lowe (1998-99) held the previous SIUE record with 23. Her 25 single-game rebounds mark the second most in Division I this season. She capped her league-leading 10th double-double of the season scoring a game-high 29 points. She finished the contest 10-13 from the field and 9-12 at the free throw line.
The senior added 17 points in the Cougars' win over Eastern Illinois, marking her 14th game scoring in double figures this season. She was 5-9 from the field, 1-2 from deep, and 6-7 at the charity stripe. She also collected seven rebounds and a team-high five steals.
The 6-2 forward leads the OVC in scoring (18.1) and rebounds (11.1) since beginning conference play. This is Thatha's fifth and the Cougars' sixth weekly individual award of the 2022-23 season.
SIUE sits in fourth place at 7-7 against league opponents and will take on UT Martin and Tennessee State in a pair of road games this week.
