State Senator Erica Harriss of the 56th District organized a Valentines for Seniors Card Drive on Valentines Day, with the aim of spreading love and joy to seniors in nursing homes, assisted-living facilities, and other long-term care facilities. The initiative received overwhelming support from various community groups, including church organizations, local groups, and schools, who contributed their time and creativity in making homemade cards.

Reflecting on the success of the card drive, Senator Harriss expressed her gratitude to all those who participated, stating, "It’s truly humbling to see so many church groups, local organizations, and schools, create homemade cards for us to deliver to area seniors across the 56th District. On a day focused on love, it was great to see so many smiles on the faces of residents as we personally delivered valentines cards to each facility."

This year's Valentines for Seniors Card Drive collected an impressive total of more than 2,000 cards. Senator Harriss and her team then hand-delivered these heartfelt messages to 36 facilities across the district throughout the Valentines week. The recipients were undoubtedly touched by the thoughtful gestures and the warmth they conveyed.

Looking ahead, Senator Harriss expressed her enthusiasm for expanding and improving the card drive in the coming years, stating, "It’s great to have the first year of this wonderful program under our belt, and I look forward to looking at ways in making the card drive bigger and better for area seniors in the years to come. I want to share a heartfelt thank you to everyone who helped make this year a great success."

Senator Harriss' Valentines for Seniors Card Drive not only brought joy to the seniors in the community but also served as a reminder of the importance of compassion and connection, especially during times when many seniors may feel isolated or forgotten. It is initiatives like these that demonstrate the power of small acts of kindness and how they can make a significant difference in the lives of others.
