City of Jerseyville City Council met Jan. 23.

Here are the minutes provided by the council:

Mayor Kevin Stork called the regular session of the Jerseyville City Council to order Tuesday, January 23rd at the Feyerabend Building beginning at 6:00 p.m.  

ROLL CALL 

Present were Commissioners Anthony Steckel, Steve Pohlman, John Miles, Zachary Crawford, and Mayor Stork. City Attorney William Strang was present. City Clerk Denise Hayes took minutes.  

Comm. Pohlman led the opening prayer and pledge of allegiance was recited. 

MINUTES 

A motion was made by Comm. Pohlman, seconded by Comm. Miles, to approve the minutes from the regular meeting held Tuesday, January 9, 2024. Roll call vote showed Pohlman aye, Crawford abstain, Steckel aye, Miles aye, and Mayor Stork aye. Motion carried. 

BILLS 

A motion was made by Comm. Steckel, seconded by Comm. Crawford, to approve the bills as presented for January 23, 2024, in the amount of $454,784.15. Comm. Steckel noted this payout included invoices for Susnig Complex renovation project and the Splash Pad project. Roll call vote showed all voted aye, no nays, motion carried.  

NEW BUSINESS 

A. Crystal Grant, Senior Managing of Operations, and Brendan St. Peters, Local Teams Leader, for Illinois American Water were present to give the Council and residents an overview of projects completed and in the process since their acquisition of the water/wastewater facilities. Highlights included completion of Jerseyville Operations Center, relocation of Nutwood water main to improve  water quality, storm sewer on Hollow Avenue, and lead service line replacement with 184 replacements being completed at a cost of $2.7 million dollars. Projects to continue to invest in the community include additional lead service line replacement, addressing water quality issues in  Nutwood, West Spruce sewer project replacing 600 ft of sewer line, and Easton lift station upgrades. New projects to be completed include Snedeker Street sewer replacement, water main  replacement on Stryker Avenue, review and identify solutions for lift station on West Fairgrounds and addressing issues at County Line and Maple Summit Road. Ms. Grant further stated IAW plans  to continue addressing resident concerns and collaborating with the City. 

B. A motion was made by Comm. Miles, seconded by Comm. Pohlman, to approve an ordinance of the City of Jerseyville providing that the code of ordinances and plat of the Baughman Commercial Park  to the City be amended for the vacation of a portion of the street known as Mound Street and  reserving unto the City, for its use forever, and for its successors and assigns, right-of-way easements for any and all municipal and private utilities and stormwater/drainage improvements located in or to be located in said vacated street. City Attorney Strang stated this is the final documentation for a fee simple transfer of the vacated portion of Mound Street to Illinois American  Water Company and Theordore and Julianne Prehn, reserving unto the City, for its use forever, and for its successors and assigns, right-of-way easements for any and all municipal and private utilities and stormwater/drainage improvements located in or to be located in said vacated street. All voted aye, no nays, motion carried.  

OTHER BUSINESS  

Mayor Stork announced registration is now being held for TBall, pitching machine, and 10u-14u baseball/softball and if interested registration can be done at the Recreation office at Mound Street, print registration form from JCUSD 100 virtual backpack, or online at www.signupville.com.  

Director of Public Works Manns acknowledged the Public Works employees for their efforts in treating  roadways during the snow/ice event and Comm. Miles also extended his appreciation.  

PUBLIC COMMENT: None.  

ADJOURNMENT: Being no other business to be discussed, a motion was made by Comm. Steckel, seconded by Comm. Crawford, to adjourn the meeting at 6:19 p.m. Roll call vote showed all voted aye, no nays, motion carried.
