St. Clair County taxpayers paid $2.3 million in Metro-East Transit District Sales Tax in February, according to Illinois tax records.

This figure marks a significant decrease from the previous month, where Metro-East Transit District Sales Tax collection stood at $2.9 million.

Over the past 12 months, St. Clair County's residents have collectively paid a total of $29.3 million in Metro-East Transit District Sales Tax.

The Metro-East Transit District Sales Tax, a crucial revenue stream, is primarily allocated for other taxing jurisdictions use.

Despite fluctuations in tax collection, Illinois continues to be one of the highest-taxed states in the U.S. According to a Wallet Hub study from March 2023, the state ranked as having the highest tax burden, approximately 39.83% above the national average.
