Illinois State Representative Kevin Schmidt recently released the results of a survey he conducted earlier this summer to understand the priorities of his constituents. The survey received feedback from hundreds of participants, revealing that tax issues are a primary concern.

Schmidt asked constituents to identify the most important issue to them, and tax reductions emerged as a dominant theme. Additionally, 68.5% of respondents supported the idea of Illinois participating in a "sales tax-free" weekend every fall, similar to a program in neighboring Missouri. This response highlighted a strong desire for tax relief and economic initiatives aimed at stimulating local spending and easing financial pressures.

"This survey solidifies what I believed to be important to the people I represent," said Schmidt. "The feedback we received underscores the urgent need for reforms to alleviate the economic strain on Illinoisans. The policies coming out of Springfield are crushing our community, and my constituents are begging for relief. As I continue my work in the legislature, these priorities will remain at the forefront of my efforts. It’s time to make meaningful changes that ease the burden on hardworking, everyday Illinoisans."

The questionnaire also explored which services provided by Illinois are deemed most important by residents. Notably, 62.3% of respondents expressed a desire for Illinois to end its status as a sanctuary state for undocumented immigrants and repeal the TRUST Act.

This survey is part of Rep. Schmidt’s ongoing efforts since taking office in 2023 to ensure his legislative agenda aligns with his district's needs. Constituents wishing to provide additional feedback can contact Rep. Schmidt’s office at 618-215-1050.
