City of Jerseyville City Council met July 23

Here are the minutes provided by the council:

Mayor Kevin Stork called the regular session of the Jerseyville City Council to order Tuesday, July 23rd at 6:00 p.m. at City Hall beginning at 6:00 p.m., and after holding a public hearing at 5:45 p.m. for the filing of the appropriations ordinance for FY25 and update on Capital Improvement Projects.

ROLL CALL

Present were Commissioners Anthony Steckel, Steve Pohlman, John Miles, and Mayor Kevin Stork. Commissioner Zachary Crawford was absent. City Attorney William Strang was present. City Clerk Denise Hayes took minutes.

Comm. Pohlman led the opening prayer and pledge of allegiance was recited.

MINUTES

A motion was made by Comm. Pohlman, seconded by Comm. Steckel, to approve the minutes from the regular meeting held Tuesday, July 9, 2024. Roll call vote showed Pohlman aye, Crawford absent, Steckel aye, Miles abstain, and Mayor Stork aye, Motion carried.

BILLS

A motion was made by Comm. Steckel, seconded by Comm. Miles, to approve the bills as presented for July 23, 2024, in the amount of $563,918.11. Comm. Steckel noted the bill total included invoices for the Hollow Avenue project. Roll call vote showed all voted aye, no nays, motion carried.

NEW BUSINESS

A. A motion was made by Comm. Steckel, seconded by Comm. Miles, to approve the certified estimate of revenues for FY24-25. Roll call vote showed all voted aye, no nays, motion carried.

B. A motion was made by Comm. Steckel, seconded by Comm. Pohlman, to approve the filing of the FY 24-25 appropriations ordinance after having held a public hearing July 23rd at 5:45 p.m. Roll call vote showed all voted aye, no nays, motion carried.

C. A motion was made by Comm. Miles, seconded by Comm. Steckel, to approve a request from Floyd Alexander, on behalf of the Ainad Shriners for a paper drive fundraiser on Saturday, September 28th at the intersection of West County Road and State Route #109 from 8:00 a.m. to Noon. Roll call vote showed all voted aye, no nays, motion carried.

D. A motion was made by Comm. Miles, seconded by Comm. Pohlman, to approve a donation to the JCHS Theatre Friends in the amount of $250.00. Last year the donated amount was $100.00 and after some discussion by the Council it was decided to increase the donation to $250.00. Roll call vote showed all voted aye, no nays, motion carried.

E. A motion was made by Comm. Steckel, seconded by Comm. Miles, to approve a donation to the District 100 Foundation in the amount of $1,000.00. Roll call vote showed all voted aye, no nays, motion carried.

OTHER BUSINESS: Mayor Stork announced the following:

-Due to construction, the front entrance to the Police Department is currently closed and anyone needing to speak to an officer or other assistance should enter through the East side door of the police department.

-Text MyGov goes live this week. Director of Tourism Will Strang announced the first text will be sent Wednesday, July 24th.

PUBLIC COMMENT: None

Matt Wargo, intern for summer, stated the pickleball tournament, currently being held at Lions Club Park is going well and participants are hoping the City offers it again.

CLOSED SESSION: A motion was made by Comm. Miles, seconded by Comm. Pohlman, to go into closed session to discuss employment contract and personnel. Roll call vote showed all voted aye, no nays, motion carried.

ADJOURNMENT: Being no action taken from closed session and no other business to be discussed, a motion was made by Comm. Pohlman, seconded by Comm. Miles, to adjourn the meeting at 6:53 p.m. Roll call vote showed all voted aye, no nays, motion carried.
