Rep. Amy Elik shares updates on district activities and statewide initiatives

State Representative Amy Elik has been active across the 111th district, attending various events and initiatives. Recently, she visited the Community Hope Center in Cottage Hills to understand their priorities. On October 4th, National Manufacturing Day was celebrated at SWIC's event, attended by over 1500 high school students from 45 schools, highlighting career opportunities in manufacturing.

In Granite City, Elik hosted a Shred Day, which saw significant community participation for safe document disposal.

Applications are now open for the Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) until August 15, 2025. This program aids income-qualified households with energy bills and furnace assistance. Last year, LIHEAP supported over 333,000 households with an average payment of $724 each. Residents can apply through helpillinoisfamilies.com or contact local agencies for assistance.

Former Illinois House Speaker Mike Madigan faces a federal corruption trial at the Dirksen Federal Courthouse. Known as a powerful figure in Illinois politics for decades, Madigan is charged with racketeering conspiracy alongside Michael McClain. The prosecution aims to prove Madigan led a criminal enterprise that enhanced his political power and benefited his allies.

Meanwhile, the Bethalto DMV is temporarily relocated to Bethalto Village Hall during renovations aimed at creating a more efficient One-Stop-Shop facility. The DMV will reopen on October 21.

This week marks Fire Prevention Week and October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month. These observances aim to promote safety measures against fires and raise awareness about early detection of breast cancer.
