State Representative Amy Elik (R-Alton) and State Senator Erica Harriss (R-Glen Carbon) are organizing a free job fair in Alton, aiming to connect local residents with employment opportunities. The event will take place on Friday, September 5, from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at the Lewis and Clark Scott Bibb Center, located at 1004 E. 5th Street.
“I’m thrilled to team up with Senator Harriss to host our first Job Fair,” said Rep. Elik. “We’ve worked hard to bring together a wide array of employers to provide an opportunity for anyone, and hope that you’ll find your next adventure because of the connections you’ll make.”
The job fair is open to the public at no cost. Attendees are encouraged to bring resumes and dress professionally.
In legislative news, House Bill 2139, sponsored by Senator Harriss and Representative Elik at the request of America’s Central Port District, has been signed into law. The bill updates longstanding provisions in the America’s Central Port District Act and aims to improve financial and operational practices for one of Illinois’ major economic centers.
“This is about keeping our Port District competitive while ensuring transparency and responsibility,” said Rep. Elik. “These updates will help the Port operate effectively for decades to come.”
Additionally, Representative Elik is working with the Treasurer’s Office through the ICASH program, which helps Illinois residents reclaim unclaimed property such as forgotten bank accounts or uncashed checks.
On November 6, Rep. Elik will also host a Narcan Seminar and Giveaway at Roxana Village Hall. Two seminars will be held at 1:00 p.m. and 2:00 p.m., providing education on naloxone (Narcan) use and offering attendees doses for emergency situations.
Elik was elected as a Republican representative for Illinois’ 111th House District in 2021, succeeding Monica Bristow.
