A Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request was submitted to the City Of Mascoutah Finance Department regarding sales tax records on October 31, 2024. The request was made by Metro East Sun, a media organization dedicated to providing comprehensive and accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs.
In the request, we sought specific information about businesses that paid sales tax to the city from January 1, 2023, to October 31, 2024. The requested details include the business name, business type, and the amount of sales tax each business paid during this period.
In addition to these specifics about individual businesses, we also asked for the total amount of sales tax that the city collected within this same timeframe. This data is crucial in providing transparency about the city's financial operations and holding public institutions accountable.
As a media organization committed to informing the public and promoting transparency in government operations, we believe access to such public records is essential in fulfilling our professional responsibilities. We have therefore requested a fee waiver as part of our role in disseminating information as media professionals.
We look forward to receiving this information and sharing it with our readers in our ongoing effort to provide comprehensive coverage of local governmental affairs.
