A Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request was sent to the City Of Collinsville on October 30, 2024. The request, issued by Metro East Sun, a media organization committed to providing comprehensive and accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs, sought detailed information about residential and commercial building permits.
The request specifically asked for a list of all new residential and commercial building permits issued from January 1, 2023, up until the date of the request. The requested details included the type of permit, date issued, fee paid, requester's name, address of the property involved in the permit application, and contractor's name.
In addition to this, Metro East Sun also requested a list of all active residential and commercial building permits along with their current status. The same details as above were requested for these active permits.
As members of the media dedicated to transparency in public affairs and holding public institutions accountable, we at Metro East Sun believe access to such records is crucial for fulfilling our professional responsibilities. We have also asked for a fee waiver given our role in disseminating information as media professionals.
We are awaiting a response from the City Of Collinsville regarding this FOIA request.
