The Illinois Department of Corrections (IDOC) is facing criticism over its handling of a drug exposure crisis in state prisons. Concerns have been raised about the department's transparency and communication, with House Republicans advocating for action to protect corrections officers, staff, and inmates.

There has been little information from IDOC regarding potential plans to address the issue until recently. Information about IDOC's consideration of electronic mail scanning emerged following Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) requests by journalists.

Stakeholders and lawmakers are urging IDOC leaders to collaborate in addressing this pressing problem effectively.

"State contract raises questions about the future of paper mail in Illinois prisons," reported WBEZ Chicago.
