The House of Representatives has passed the bipartisan Senator Elizabeth Dole 21st Century Veterans Healthcare and Benefits Improvement Act with a vote of 382-12. The bill now awaits the President's signature to become law. This legislation aims to modernize and improve the delivery of care and benefits for veterans.
House Committee on Veterans’ Affairs Chairman Mike Bost expressed pride in the changes that the Dole Act will bring, stating, "There is no better way to close out the Congress than to pass a good bill for veterans and their families." He emphasized that the act focuses on expanding economic opportunities, simplifying disability claims, reforming services for aging veterans, and enhancing mental health support.
Representative Juan Ciscomani highlighted the importance of supporting veterans as they transition back into civilian life. "Our freedoms are built on the courage, dedication, and sacrifice of our veterans," he said. He praised both chambers of Congress for approving the bill, which seeks to streamline processes at the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) and improve access to job training.
Both representatives thanked their colleagues in Congress as well as outside organizations that contributed to crafting this legislative package. They urged President Biden to sign it into law promptly.
