State Representative Kevin Schmidt has extended his best wishes to fellow representative Charlie Meier, who recently disclosed his prostate cancer diagnosis. Schmidt conveyed his prayers for Meier's health.

Meier shared a letter with his constituents, informing them of his health status and urging vigilance regarding routine health check-ups. In the letter, Meier recounted learning about his condition following a routine blood test last year. "Late last year, during an annual routine blood test, I learned I share a bond with millions of Americans. I have cancer of the prostate," he stated.

Despite the unexpected news due to previously good health reports, Meier expressed optimism about the treatability of this type of cancer and announced plans to begin radiation treatment at St. Elizabeth’s in O’Fallon for at least 28 days.

Meier emphasized transparency in sharing this personal information and affirmed his commitment to representing Bond, Clinton, Madison, St. Clair, and Washington counties during this period. He acknowledged the importance of early detection and support from medical professionals and loved ones as key factors in overcoming the illness.

To focus on both his health and constituents in the 109th district, Meier has chosen to step down from a leadership role within House Republicans temporarily.
