Following the official Organizational Meeting for the 119th Congress, Chairman Mike Bost of Illinois announced the full membership and subcommittee chair assignments for the House Committee on Veterans’ Affairs. Bost emphasized a shift in focus towards veterans, stating: “The legacy of the Biden-Harris administration is bureaucracy first, veteran second. That’s unacceptable, and with our strong bench of returning and new lawmakers in place, change is coming for the men and women who have served.”

Each subcommittee will be chaired by a veteran, providing them with personal insight into veterans' issues. Bost added, “We know where the shortfalls are, and we are ready to hit the ground running to cut out the red tape and protect opportunity for every single veteran – we have no greater mission, and I know veterans and their families are counting on us to get it done.”

Rep. Mariannette Miller-Meeks from Iowa returns as Chair of the Health Subcommittee. She expressed her dedication to enhancing healthcare services for veterans: “Improving services and ensuring veterans receive the best possible healthcare - especially mental healthcare and suicide prevention - remains a top priority.”

Texas Rep. Morgan Luttrell will continue as Chairman of Disability Assistance & Memorial Affairs. He stated his commitment to improving support systems for servicemembers: “As a disabled veteran, I’ve lived the challenges our servicemembers face when they return home.”

Wisconsin’s Derrick Van Orden resumes his role leading Economic Opportunity. His primary focus remains securing pathways for veterans reintegrating into civilian life: “It is my number one priority to secure effective pathways for veterans to successfully reintegrate back into civilian life.”

Virginia's Jen Kiggans chairs Oversight & Investigations once more. She aims to hold VA accountable: “Improving the lives of our American heroes is - and always will be - one of my top priorities.”

Finally, Tom Barrett from Michigan leads Technology Modernization after 22 years in the Army. He aims to enhance VA systems: “I am committed to delivering for our veterans...to ensure the VA’s systems deliver the highest standard of care possible.”
