A Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request was sent to the Triad Community Unit School District 2 in Illinois on January 28, 2025. The request, made by Metro East Sun, a media organization dedicated to comprehensive and accurate news coverage of local governmental affairs, sought copies of all emails and memos from the past year containing specific keywords.
The requested records are expected to shed light on internal communications within the school district. The keywords specified for this search were “Lucy Calkins” and “Units of Study”. As members of the media, we at Metro East Sun believe access to such public records is crucial for our mission of holding public institutions accountable and providing transparency to the public.
In addition to this, we also highlighted our eligibility for a fee waiver as a media professional involved in gathering and reporting news to the public. This FOIA request forms part of our ongoing efforts to provide comprehensive coverage of local governmental affairs.
According to the Illinois Report Card, the average state teacher salary in 2023 was $73,916, while the state average administrative salary stood at $116,908. Furthermore, the average student-to-administrative ratio is reported as 141:1, with an average student-to-teacher ratio of 17:1. It's also worth noting that 58% of teachers in Illinois have a master's degree or higher.
