State Representative Kevin Schmidt has continued his commitment to local charities by donating his January pay raise to Church Emergency Services New Athens (CESNA). The donation was made in the form of food, following Schmidt's pledge to donate his monthly pay raise to different local food pantries or charity organizations. This decision came after he voted against a legislative pay raise.

"Our local charities need our help," stated Schmidt. "When the legislature voted themselves a pay raise last General Assembly, I promised to give the amount of the raise each month to a local organization that’s trying to help feed the hungry. When I went to Springfield, I didn’t go to serve myself, I went to serve my community."

CESNA is an organization composed of churches in New Athens dedicated to assisting those in need. Additional information about CESNA can be found on their Facebook page.

In addition to Schmidt's donation, local Scouts contributed a birthday bag for one of CESNA's recipients who will celebrate a birthday in February. The bag includes cake mix, candles, and balloons for a complete celebration.
