FOIA Request to Madison County Il Clerk Election Division Regarding Upcoming Election Candidates on February 5, 2025.
As part of our ongoing commitment to provide comprehensive and accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs, we at Metro East Sun have sent a request under the Illinois Freedom of Information Act (5 ILCS 140) to the Madison County Il Clerk Election Division.
The request seeks a list of all candidates running in the upcoming election. Specifically, we asked for the candidates' first, middle, and last names, the office they are running for, jurisdiction of the office, and party affiliation.
In addition to this information about the candidates themselves, we also requested contact information for each candidate. This includes their address, phone number, and email address.
Access to public records is essential for us at Metro East Sun to fulfill our professional responsibilities. These include holding public institutions accountable and providing transparency to the public. Given our role in disseminating information, we believe we are eligible for a fee waiver as media professionals.
