Illinois Governor JB Pritzker delivered his annual budget address to the General Assembly, presenting a proposal that has sparked criticism from some quarters. State Representative Amy Elik, a Republican from Alton and Deputy Budgeteer for the House Republican Caucus, responded critically to the governor's plan.

Elik expressed her disapproval of the budget, stating, "Today, we saw more of the same from Governor Pritzker: political rhetoric, increased spending, and gaslighting about the state’s fiscal crisis." She noted that this year's proposal marks another record in Illinois history with nearly $2 billion in additional spending. According to Elik, the governor's financial strategy relies on controversial legislative actions to support what she describes as a "spending spree."

Furthermore, Elik took issue with comments made by Governor Pritzker during his address. She stated, "Most appalling was the Governor linking Illinoisans upset about inflation and reckless government spending to Nazi Germans before World War II." Elik condemned these remarks as offensive and suggested they were motivated by political ambition rather than responsibility toward Illinois citizens.

Representative Amy Elik serves the 111th district, which includes part of Madison County.
