State Representative Charlie Meier, a Republican from Okawville, has put forward the 'Second Amendment Heritage' bill package in Springfield, Illinois. This legislative effort seeks to bolster the Second Amendment rights of residents in the state.
Rep. Meier stated, "Your Second Amendment rights have been under attack for years from the Chicago Democrats." He emphasized that his legislative package aims to counter these efforts and restore rights he believes have been eroded by Democratic policies affecting gun owners statewide. "I’m committed to advancing and protecting the Second Amendment in Illinois," he added.
The proposed bills within this package include several measures: HB56 would permit States Attorneys and judges to carry concealed weapons into courtrooms; HB1128 proposes lowering the age requirement for obtaining a Firearm Owner's Identification (FOID) card to 18; HB1131 suggests reducing the cost of replacing a Concealed Carry License (CCL) from $75 to $5; HB1132 aims to adjust firearm dealer permit fees according to business size; and HB1137 seeks to simplify CCL acquisition for active-duty military personnel stationed in Illinois.
Additionally, Rep. Meier is backing legislation intended to repeal what he describes as an unconstitutional gun ban. He also supports efforts to "Void the FOID" card system.
"It’s easy to talk a big game on these issues, but I’m doing the work to advance and protect your Second Amendment rights," Meier said. He further expressed his dedication by stating, "I’m standing up for our Southern Illinois values every day."
