State Representative Amy Elik (IL) | Representative Amy Elik (R) 111th District
For this week's update, Representative Amy Elik addressed several key issues impacting her district and the state of Illinois. The audit results for the Health Benefits for Immigrant Seniors and Adults (HBIA/HBIS) were a primary focus. Conducted by the Auditor General at the direction of Rep. Elik through the Legislative Audit Commission, the audit revealed significant discrepancies between estimated and actual enrollment and expenses. "We must do better," said Rep. Elik, emphasizing that this is an opportunity to prioritize taxpayers over fraud and overspending.
In addition to discussing healthcare, Rep. Elik highlighted efforts to support working families in Illinois. A group of House Republican legislators introduced a legislative package aimed at alleviating financial burdens faced by these families. The Relief for Working Families package includes proposals to encourage entrepreneurship, ensure tipped employees retain all gratuities, and create opportunities for technical skill-building leading to high-paying jobs.
Rep. Elik also shared her recent activities around the district. She participated in committee meetings in Springfield and spoke on the HBIA/HBIS audit findings' impact. Furthermore, she joined Governor JB Pritzker and other leaders at a groundbreaking ceremony for Wieland Rolled Products North America's new facility in East Alton—a $500 million investment expected to retain hundreds of jobs in Metro East.
Highlighting mental health initiatives, Rep. Elik was part of a panel at the Mental Health & Addiction Legislative Forum where discussions focused on mental health and addiction challenges.
Looking ahead, Rep. Elik announced upcoming Mobile Office Hours in Granite City on Friday. This event is open to the public, providing assistance with issues related to Illinois agencies.
