The HIRE Vets Medallion Program, managed by the Department of Labor's Veterans' Employment and Training Service (VETS), is designed to recognize employers for hiring and retaining veterans. The program accepts voluntary applications for the HIRE Vets Medallion Award annually, starting on January 31. This award acknowledges employers who not only employ veterans but also implement employee development programs and veteran-specific benefits aimed at improving retention.

Employers who meet the criteria outlined in the program's rules are awarded a "HIRE Vets Medallion Award." This award has two tiers, Platinum and Gold, applicable to large (500-plus employees), medium (51-499 employees), and small employers (50 or fewer employees). The verification process involves self-attestation by the applicant's CEO or CHRO and checking for any violations of the Uniformed Services Employment and Reemployment Rights Act (USERRA) and the Vietnam Era Veterans’ Readjustment Act (VEVRAA).

Award recipients receive a certificate for the year they received the award, a digital image of the medallion for use in advertisements or business-related materials, and recognition on the program's website. These companies can use the medallion to market themselves as veteran-ready businesses, both to attract more veterans and to enhance their business attractiveness.

More information about eligibility and application can be found at the HIRE Vets Medallion Program's official website, HIREVets.gov, or by reaching out via email at HIREVets@dol.gov.
