State Representative Kevin Schmidt has introduced a new bill aimed at supporting active-duty military personnel in Illinois by eliminating their vehicle registration fees. House Bill 1125, if enacted, would amend the Illinois Vehicle Code to waive these fees for military personnel whose vehicles weigh no more than 8,000 pounds.

Rep. Schmidt, a Republican from Cahokia Heights, emphasized the significance of the bill as a way to express gratitude to those serving in the military. "My bill is a small gesture to show appreciation to the men and women who are committed to serving the greatest nation on earth," said Schmidt. He expressed the hope that the legislation would garner bipartisan support and progress through the committee stage, further honoring military service members.

Currently, the law provides a reduction in registration fees for active-duty personnel, but Schmidt's proposal seeks to eliminate the fees entirely. Interested parties seeking more details are encouraged to contact Rep. Schmidt’s office at (618)-215-1050.

Kevin Schmidt represents the 114th District, which partially covers St. Clair County.
