State Representative Kevin Schmidt's recent activities in the 114th District have involved meetings with constituents and legislative proposals. Despite a quieter week in session, Schmidt has engaged with community members to discuss initiatives for improving the district's quality of life.

Schmidt participated in a Pro Life rally at the Capitol and met with Community Development Sustainable Solutions to talk about their parent mentor programs. This initiative offers paid programs that place parents in classrooms, aiding teachers and supporting educational careers, potentially addressing teacher shortages.

Highlights of the week included meeting Miriah Boyd from Cahokia Heights High School. Boyd founded K.I.N.D (Keep Increasing Nice Deeds) to promote kindness and support for bullying victims. She holds the title of Miss Illinois Juneteenth Queen.

During a Coffee Talk event, Schmidt exchanged ideas for community improvements within the district. He emphasized, "Your voice is heard and we will continue to work on finding solutions to state issues that impact families and businesses!"

Schmidt has filed House Bill 1125 to eliminate vehicle registration fees for active-duty military personnel. This proposal follows his commitment to honor military service. "My bill is a small gesture to show appreciation to the men and women who are committed to serving the greatest nation on earth," Schmidt stated.

In Springfield, Schmidt celebrated the grand opening of a Disabled American Veterans (DAV) location in Freeburg. DAV provides services to veterans and their families, becoming an advocate for veterans' rights for over a century. Schmidt commended the organization for its community support.

Additionally, the House Republican caucus sent a letter to the Illinois High School Association (IHSA) regarding adaptations to President Trump's Executive Order on sports participation policies. The response from IHSA is awaited.
