Rep. Amy Elik's legislative effort to streamline the process of naming roads after fallen heroes has moved forward successfully in the Illinois House. House Bill 1724 was passed this week, aiming to simplify the existing procedures under the "Heroes Way Designation Program".

Currently, the program involves designating sections of state highways, bridges, or interchanges to honor Illinois service members who died in active duty. For such an honor, a resolution must be adopted by both the Illinois House and Senate. Rep. Elik's bill addresses delays caused when resolutions clear the House but fail in the Senate, leading to dropped or delayed road naming.

Rep. Elik explained, "This bill says that road naming resolutions only have to go through one Chamber. This will make the process to honor our fallen heroes quicker and more efficient."

The bill passed unanimously in the House and is now pending consideration by the Senate.
