Rep. Amy Elik, a Republican from Alton, successfully advanced four bills through the Illinois House during an important deadline week. All four bills received unanimous backing.
The first bill, HB 1724, simplifies the legislative process for highway naming resolutions by allowing them to be approved by only one chamber of the General Assembly. This change addresses current delays in memorial road namings that occur when proposals are held up in the second chamber, hindering the commemoration of local heroes.
The second bill, HB 2139, aims to modernize aspects of the America's Central Port statute, thereby promoting more efficient operations at the local port. This update is intended to facilitate smoother business processes within the port’s jurisdiction.
The third bill, HB 2179, seeks to clarify the reporting obligations for assisted living facilities. The goal is to ensure that incidents and accidents are reported properly to the Illinois Department of Public Health, thus enhancing safety and accountability.
The last bill, HB 2863, mandates transparency and comprehensive notification from utility companies when they acquire water and sewer systems. This requirement is designed to protect consumer interests and ensure clarity during such acquisitions.
“These bills reflect my commitment to honoring our citizens, improving transparency, and supporting essential services across Illinois,” commented Rep. Amy Elik. “Each measure helps remove red tape, protect consumers, and enhance efficiency in ways that will positively affect people across our state.”
The progress of these bills can be tracked as they move to the Senate for further review. Interested individuals can follow their status at ilga.gov or on RepElik.com.
