Rep. Amy Elik recently shared updates on her legislative activities in Springfield. She has successfully advanced several bills through the Illinois House, all receiving unanimous support.

Among the bills, HB 1724 "allows highway naming resolutions to pass through only one chamber of the General Assembly," addressing delays in honoring local heroes. HB 2139 aims to modernize business operations at America’s Central Port. HB 2179 focuses on clarifying reporting requirements for assisted living facilities to the Illinois Department of Public Health. HB 2863 demands greater transparency when utility companies acquire water and sewer utilities.

Elik expressed her ongoing commitment to "honoring our citizens, improving transparency, and supporting essential services across Illinois," highlighting the positive impacts of these measures.

The Homeschool Act, HB 2827, which faced significant opposition, now stands held on third reading and was not brought for a vote by the House bill deadline. Elik described it as "a bad bill," citing concerns about the mandates' costs on different levels of government and the potential restrictions on homeschool families. Despite the bill's setback, Elik noted, "Your voices matter," as over 130,000 people filed witness slips against it.

Elik also opposed HB 1237, the mascot ban, which would require numerous school districts to change mascots, potentially affecting the Collinsville Kahoks and Granite City Warriors. She urged Senators to vote against the bill due to the financial burden it would impose on schools.

As the legislative session continues, Rep. Elik anticipates a busy schedule and plans to engage with constituents through outreach events. She encourages anyone facing issues with a state agency to contact her district office for assistance.
