State Representative Amy Elik and State Senator Erica Harriss recently hosted their annual Kids Fair in Granite City, attracting hundreds of children and families from the Metro East area. The event aimed to connect families with local and state resources while providing entertainment for children.
"This event is a one-stop shop for families to connect with important local and state resources for their children," stated Senator Harriss. "Parents can get helpful information, kids enjoy free activities and treats, and everyone has a great time."
The fair featured various activities including a foam party, face painting, a balloon artist, a touch-a-truck experience, as well as free vision and hearing screenings. Attendees also received complimentary snacks and drinks provided by sponsors such as Kraft, Meridian, Twigs for Kids, and Granite City Route 66.
Representative Elik emphasized the importance of community service through events like this. "As legislators, it’s our job to serve the community, whether that’s at the Capitol or right here at home," she said. "Seeing so many local families come together for a fun, free event that also connects them with valuable resources is exactly why we do this. We’re here to help."
Plans are already underway for next summer's Kids Fair. Both lawmakers expressed gratitude towards Granite City leaders and The Mill Events venue for hosting the event.
