State Representative Kevin Schmidt, who began serving the 114th House District in Illinois in 2023, has been focusing on reducing costs and taxes for families. He remains active in his community through volunteer work and donations to local organizations.

Schmidt, a Republican, was elected to the Illinois State House in 2023, succeeding LaToya Greenwood as representative of the 114th District.

Since taking office, Schmidt has chosen to donate any legislative pay raises he receives to food pantries within his district. Each year when state legislators receive a salary increase, Schmidt donates an equivalent amount to help provide groceries and necessities for those in need. This effort is aimed at supporting individuals affected by food insecurity and addressing challenges faced by low-income households and communities identified as food deserts.

During the 103rd General Assembly, Schmidt supported Senate Bill 850, which is designed to address food insecurity issues in both urban and rural areas lacking access to affordable groceries.

“I have voted against salary increases for state legislators because Illinois families are struggling and I want them to know simply acts of kindness can make a big difference in our communities,” said Schmidt. “On top of legislation I support that helps working families get ahead, I’m grateful to be in a position to donate my pay raise each year to help the less fortunate.”

Each month, Schmidt selects a local food pantry where he delivers needed supplies. Those interested in joining his initiative can find information about food pantries in the 114th District by visiting this link on his website.

Working together with community members is part of Schmidt’s approach to strengthening neighborhoods and assisting those facing financial hardship.
