Rep. Mike Bost, U.S. Representative for Illinois' 12th congressional district and one of the only professional firefighters in Congress, posted a series of updates on his official X account this week highlighting legislative activity, community engagement, and local achievements.

On September 7, 2025, Rep. Bost announced his support for national security and energy independence initiatives by stating: "This week I voted for the Energy and Water Development Appropriations Act to strengthen our national security and ensure America’s energy independence. Later that same day, he shared details about meeting with local first responders from Karnak: "I had the chance to meet with Charles and Tamra Peck, as well as Carly and Lucas Jones, from Karnak, who serve their community as firefighters. As one of the only professional firefighters in Congress, I never miss an opportunity to visit with those who keep us safe. I will https://t.co/AqbFpfgG0x"

On September 8, 2025, Rep. Bost congratulated a local choir on receiving national recognition: "Congratulations to Marion’s Market Street Music Conservatory Adult Choir on being selected to perform at the White House this Christmas season. This is an incredible honor and a wonderful opportunity to showcase the talent and spirit of Southern Illinois on the national stage!"

Rep. Mike Bost has held his seat since defeating William L. Enyart in 2014 with 52.5% of the vote and has since secured re-election through multiple cycles—including victories over Charles Baricevic in 2016 (54.3%), Raymond Lenzi in 2020 (60.4%), Brendan Kelly in 2018 (51.6%), and Chip Markel most recently in 2022 with a commanding majority of 75%. His background as both a legislator focused on security measures such as appropriations bills for energy infrastructure—and as one of Congress's few professional firefighters—positions him uniquely within both national policy discussions and local community outreach.
