Rep. Mike Bost, U.S. Congressman for Illinois’ 12th district, has used his social media platform to comment on recent national events, including actions by President Trump and ongoing disputes in Congress.

On October 14, 2025, Bost announced the posthumous awarding of the Presidential Medal of Freedom to Charlie Kirk by President Trump. He stated, "President Trump will posthumously award Charlie Kirk the Presidential Medal of Freedom today for his tireless work defending freedom, faith, free speech, and the values that make our nation strong. It’s a fitting recognition for a man who had a great impact on a generation of".

The following day, Bost addressed the government shutdown and its impact on military personnel. On October 15, he wrote, "The D.C. Democrats refused to end their shutdown, even as our active-duty troops were due to miss their paycheck today. In response, President Trump has temporarily redirected existing Pentagon R&D funding to pay men and women in uniform. Big thank you to the President for his".

Continuing on October 16, Bost criticized congressional Democrats for prolonging the shutdown and seeking to restore funding for certain programs. He stated, "Democrats are dragging out their shutdown and pushing to restore $5 billion for woke programs cut by President Trump and Republicans in Congress. Those include: - $135 million in contributions to the World Health Organization - $158 million for the Lebanon Peacekeeping Mission".

Mike Bost has represented Illinois’ 12th district since 2015 and has consistently secured reelection, defeating Chip Markel in 2022 with 75% of the vote, as well as prevailing over other challengers in previous elections.
