Alton City Council convenes on a transition plan regarding the Americans with Disabilities Act

Disabilitiesact

The City of Alton, Illinois City Council convened recently to discuss a plan surrounding the Americans with Disabilities Act.

Called to order by Mayor Brant Walker, the meeting started with a notice of public hearing. The clerk read the notice, which stated that, pursuant to Title II of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), the City Council of the City of Alton, Illinois, would hold a public hearing on a proposed plan called the Transition Plan.

The council sought public comment from its citizens with the goal that the city does not discriminate against qualified individuals with disabilities. Whether it has to do with its services, programs and activities, or employment practices, the city wanted to ensure it complied with all regulations required by the ADA.

Other issues of note at the meeting included a resolution for the City’s Fire Chief to work with Madison County Emergency Management Agency for the purchase of a 1992 Ford Recue truck. The chief was also authorized to negotiate the sale of a 1989 Mako breathing air compressor.
