Shimkus and other Congress members oppose Obama's pledge to the UN's Green Climate Fund

Greenclimate

A letter sent to the House Committee on Appropriators today opposing Obama’s unilateral pledge of U.S. taxpayer dollars to the UN’s Green Climate Fund includes the signature of Rep. John Shimkus (R-IL).

Created in 2009, the Green Climate Fund aimed to raise $100 billion a year in financing for “green” energy projects in developing countries. In their letter, 110 members of Congress now say they never voted to authorize this funding.

“Congress never authorized a dime for this,” Shimkus said. “No money for the U.N. Green Climate Fund should be included in any spending bill without such an authorization. Congress decides how taxpayer money should be spent, not the President.”

Despite this, and despite serious domestic budget constraints, Shimkus said President Obama pledged $3 billion in U.S. taxpayer funding to the Untied Nations.
