The City of Alton Climate Protection and Energy Efficiency Committee is currently considering the implementation of hybrid patrol cars.

At its most recent meeting, the Climate Protection and Energy Efficiency Committee for the City of Alton, Illinois, debated the environmental impact of new patrol vehicles.

The committee looked at three hybrid patrol cars that run on butane. The cars would save on fuel costs and be better for the environment, as butane costs just 52 cents per gallon. The company the committee would use is AutoGas. AutoGas would convert Dodge Chargers for an estimated $7,500 per vehicle.

The committee also discussed the recent flooding and debated how its sustainability plan would help situations like this in the future.
