Simpson Memorial Tennis Fund Committee OKs proposal to test court pavement

Tenniscourt

The Simpson Memorial Tennis Fund Committee gathered in Alton’s City Hall recently for a proposal that would see testing completed to determine pavement composition.

“As we discussed earlier, I have authorized and executed an agreement to provide testing to determine the pavement composition and thicknesses of the courts at the Simplon Tennis Complex,” Robert Barnhardt said in the proposal draft. “Originally the cost estimate was $2,000; however, with some donated time, we have found a way to do the work for only $700. I spoke with Alton City Treasurer Cindy Roth, and we need for your group to have a meeting to authorize payment for the core sample testing. ”

The committee discussed the proposal, with James Humphrey asking whether the testing was part of an official city project to improve the courts. Humphrey believes it is important to invest in an official project plan.

After discussion, Gene Ursprung motioned to approve the disbursement of $700 to fund the court core analysis.

The motion passed unanimously.
